Giovanni Chianese is a PhD Student at the Department of Industrial Engineering of University of Naples Federico II. He spent half of his PhD at Warwick Manufacturing Group in the context of the PON PhD Program. He is currently working on a PhD project, which is entitled: “Development of models and methods for automatized and adaptive joining processes for smart manufacturing in the automotive field”. He has been involved in two industrial-led research projects in the context of collaborations at WMG. His research interests are two-fold and focused on: (i) the development of in-process monitoring systems for the remote laser welding (RLW) of dissimilar metallic thin-foils for the diagnosis and isolation of weld defects via implementation of ML algorithms and photodiodes; (ii) the development of multi-physics models for the simulation of the RLW of dissimilar metallic thin foils.
