MASSIMO MARTORELLI


Massimo Martorelli is Full Professor of Design and Methods of Industrial Engineering at the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Naples Federico II.

He is the Scientific Responsible of the Laboratories CREAMI - Center of Reverse Engineering and Additive Manufacturing Innovation and RICREAMI - Research Innovation Center of Regenerative Engineering and Additive ManufacturIng of the University of Naples Federico II.


In recent years He has been the Scientific Responsible for the University of Naples Federico II/Department of Industrial Engineering in the following scientific projects: (1) PON ISAF - Integrated Smart Assembly Factory  with Leonardo-  ARS01_01188 (project's start date: 01/01/2019 - duration 30 months); (2) POR FESR CAMPANIA 2014/2020 O.S. 1.1 – SINTASSI (Integrated Systems and Additive Technologies for Biomedical Sciences) CUP: B41B18000820007 (project's start date: 04/05/2020 duration: 18 months); (3) PON STEP-FAR - Development of eco-compatible materials and technologies, of drilling and trimming processes and of robotized assembly (project's start date: 01/04/2014 - duration 36 months).

His research activity covers the area of CAD Systems, Design for Additive Manufacturing and Reverse Engineering in industrial and in biomedical field. He is author of over 100 scientific publications on International and National Journals or on International Conference proceedings. He contributed in the development of two patents.

He is Associate Editor in Chief of: (i) Progress in Additive Manufacturing, published by Springer; (ii) International Journal of Interactive Design and Manufacturing, published by Springer.

He is invited Reviewer for several International Journals: Rapid Prototyping Journal (Emerald Group), Additive Manufacturing (Elsevier), 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing (Mary Ann Liebert, Inc.), Progress in Additive Manufacturing (Springer), Computer-Aided Design (Elsevier), Dental Materials Journal (Elsevier), International Journal on Interactive Design and Manufacturing (Springer), Journal of Biomechanics (Elsevier), Computers in Biology and Medicine (Elsevier), Biosystem Engineering (Elsevier), Journal of Manufacturing Processes (Elsevier).

He is the recipient of the following awards: (1) Poster Award Winner at the 26th Congress of the European Society of Biomechanics (ESB), Milan, July 2021 with the poster on “An integrated experimental-theoretical approach of single cell mechanics after in-flow compressive forces”. He is member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Association of Design Methods and Tools for Industrial Engineering. He is an Active Member of the European Society of Biomechanics (ESB).
